Home Hospice Helps the Community Cover a Tough Topic

SHERMAN, Texas. Oct. 23, 2012 – Home Hospice of Grayson, Cooke, and Fannin Counties is shedding light on a topic that many avoid — communicating wishes for end-of-life care. Home Hospice is hosting a workshop called The Great Conversation designed to help the community learn how to start the conversation with loved ones and tackle a difficult subject.

This workshop will be offered on October 29, November 19, and December 10 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Home Hospice located at 505 W. Center Street in Sherman. It will also be offered on January 24, 2013 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Pecan Point Assisted Living and Memory Care located at 1011 Pecan Grove Road in Sherman.

“The opportunity to talk with your loved ones, whether your parents, your spouse, brother, sister or child about their wishes, desires and hopes provides for an immense sense of peace and comfort in the midst of one of the most difficult storms in life,” said JoCarolyn Chambers, LCSW, social worker for Home Hospice of Grayson, Cooke, and Fannin Counties and facilitator for the workshop. “The knowledge that you have done what your family member or friend entrusted to you is truly a gift that you will have forever.”

The Great Conversation will provide tools for each individual to determine what matters to them and to their family, and it will cover topics such as advance directives, end-of-life care, and other tough decisions that arise at the end-of-life.

Home Hospice is a non-profit organization, founded in 1982, dedicated to providing physical, emotional, and spiritual care at the end-of-life for patients, their families, and caregivers regardless of ability to pay, as well as to offer comfort to all in the community who are grieving.
