Lights out JasperOn Sunday, February 13th from 11:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. Jasper will be in the dark. According to Jasper City Manager, Tommy Boykin, the power will be out all through the day for all City of Jasper electrical customers in order to replace a faulty main switch in the Milam Street substation. With 138,000 volts of electricity involved, shutting down the power is the only way to make the switch. While “habit” rules our lives, we need to remember that “no electricity” includes traffic lights, street lights, our backyard security lights and most of our telephones. The only phones you can be sure will work are the hardwired phones. Portable, cordless phones and some cell phones will not be functioning during the blackout. Mr. Boykin said there may be more adjustments to this schedule so watch for more announcements in the newspaper and on the radio. As always, we recommend you be prepared and don’t forget those things that will need to be reset Monday morning, Feb. 14th.
